I'd either measure the sides exacly to determine which side it really is on, or ask someone to move it to one side. |

there is no one else with you and there are no other objects around you except for a table which is of infinite length and a pencil. You are standing in perfect alignment with the pencil, there is no way of moving it except you yourself only to pick it up, which hand would you use.
Edit : you can only pick up the pencil with one hand |

I'd look at the way the pen nib is pointing, and:
If it's pointing to my right, pick it up with left.
If it's pointing to my left, pick it up with right. |
