Hi, could you please share the list of bans on the Web please? Prefribly with the reason along side (I can develop a php list for it if needed), caus if they were banned for a good reason, I'd like to ban it on my servers too, thanks. |

From the announcement at the top of this forum...Banned Players:
Chips wrote: |
There are currently 43 steam ID's in our ban files. I have no idea what name corresponds to each. I could probably find most by looking at old log files...but I ain't doing that any time soon.
Only 2 or 3 were banned for blatant cheating. The rest were for pron sprays (prolly 5 or so), constant team shooting (maybe 10)...the rest were constant foul language over chat or voice comm.
Several regulars who were once banned are now all back. Even Paul has just shown up again, here in the forums. These 43 players were never regulars and won't EVER be allowed back. They were people who chose to be jerks the minute they logged on to the server...they won't be missed. |
I'd be glad to share our ban file with you. I don't know names or reasons for each individual steam ID. I've never cared to keep such info. If you get banned from here, you must be a real butthead...as I believe you know we're rather lenient. Next month, will be a year this server has been up and we've only banned 45 players (now)...not a lot at all. Trust me, none of them were ever regulars...and will bother us no more. Also, I truly don't want to be the source behind posting someone's steam ID online. We ban constant team shooters...most others may not. I wouldn't want someone we banned for breaking one of our rules to be listed as possibly banned for other reasons. Again, you can have the file if you wish. |

Okey
Would you like a mini ban system, where administrators can login, and record bans, with the Steam ID, name, and reason? Might be helpful for when people request an unban or "why was I banned". |

My idea is:
A list, programmed in PHP (using a MySQL database to store data).
- Everyone, can view the current active bans, the name of the player when the ban was set, date/time it was set, and reason for it. Guests would not require logging in at all.
- Server administrators can create bans, and modify/remove bans/ban information for bans they have set, not anyone elses.
- The "owner" being Chips, can modify or remove anything the hell he likes.
I'll try and make it user friendly |

To be honest, I appreciate the though...but I'm not really interested.
Another db to maintain and backup (even though it would be small) is not foremost on my list of things to do...or want.
Again, we ban so few around here that it's truly not necessary...jmo. |

TBH, you should only have 2 databses.
1 for the phpBB forum software.
2 named something like "website" to hold all the tables for the website, and any assets off it.
That only means 2 backups :p or if your ubérleet you can write a PHP script to deliver backups by E-Mail to you however often you want, using the unix Crontab. |

As of now, I only have one db for the forums and I back it up every evening now with a cron job that runs on my web space. I actually do have a test db and test forums that I've been messing with...but I couldn't care less if that blew to pieces. It's just for playing around with and testing.
Our one page web site has no assets of any relevance that requires a db...just how I like it. Plain and simple...
Maybe someday... |
