Okay, so 5 days ago from now whenever I used to play TFC, DoD, or CS Servers my ping was in the steady 20-90's. Now I noticed every server I go to my ping is in the 100-800's and I spike alot, this sucks, even on the practice server before everything ran smooth for me. Now when we had practice on thursday I cept spiking and lagging. Dose anyone have any tips any commands in-game I could try to lower my ping, or any other way. If you do please help me out.
___________________________How To Fix Problem__________________________________
If by any chance anyone encounters any of these problems with lag try some of these techniques......
1. Make sure in your "Steam" Settings on the "Internet" Tab the Internet Connection Speed is set to the correct speed of your ISP.
[How To] First Open Steam, Than Click "Settings", After the settings window popsup click on the Tab that says "Internet" and change your connection speed to the right one.!
2. Make sure you dont have any background Applications running while your ingame that you dont need. to check this Mainly everyone uses the "Task Manager" but thier is other methods.
[How To] Before you start up TFC or any other mod press and hold these three keys together Alt+Ctrl+Delete !Do not press these keys together constitantly becosue than it would restar your PC! After pressing the keys a Task Manager will popup, from there click on applications tab to see any programs you dont need running while ingame , and than switch over to the "Processes" Tab and "End Task" any programs or .exe's that you think are not needed or that might look suspicios such as "Save.exe" a bad spyware file. !Do not end taks on Explorer.exe!
3. There might be a virus or a dangerous spyware lurking in your harddrive. So you must clean them up

I suck at making these things, but i hope they helped
Kthnxs to chips and Demasu for the help! |

You may think you don't have a virus or something but it can't hurt to check. Other than that don't run any programs in the background. GL |

I have the same problem. In every single server i go to, CSS, HL2, TFC, DoD, in a lot of the servers i have 40 ping average. Chips server was steady 70's when i first came in to when our last match was and not .ar .
It was 240, you guys remember that horrible time.. me cursing in the mic every 10 seconds about my ping and how i couldnt conc. Well, now in Chips Fun House server, i get 150 ping. But all my other pings have stayed the same. |

Check your connection setting in steam...fairly often, it changes after an update. There have been a couple lately.
www.dslreports.com
Go there and use their tools and tweaks to check your connection and get suggestions on settings to improve performance. |

because steam attempts to limit your connection depending on what you set it as, you should find heaps of improvement now. |

Make sure your setting is set to what it really is |

I don't know that steam deliberately attempts to "limit" your connection. It does optimize for your connection speed.
Nirvana...steam thought (because of that setting) that you have a 56k connection and uses bandwidth and resources accordingly. Even if you have broadband...setting this at 56k will be like playing on 56k.
You should check this setting after every steam update...for some reason, this happens frequently to many players. |

Luckily...no.
You prolly checked it just as a map was changing...it would appear to be down for those few seconds. |

So were mine, and that would partally explain the >1K ping I was having. A quick scan with anti-spyware and anti-virus programs help alot though. |
