So I was talking with my little brother today (he's eight years old) and he like turns to me on advice for life and stuff, cuz we're openly cool like that. We got talking, and I came up with a theory on life and how people work. Apparently he's having troubles with other kids at school (grades 3-6) calling him names and things like "gay". This shocked me. When I was that little, I didn't know the meaning of the word, let alone call anyone it.

So I told him how kids are stupid, and will blurt out any new word they learn just because it makes them cool. I then proceeded to tell him the main theories of life which I follow unto this day:

1) You are the only person to whom your appearance/status should matter. If you're cool with how you are, to hell with everyone else.

2) The only people whose words you should heed, are Teachers, Doctors, Priests, and the President. Anything anyone else says can be taken as sheer bullshit, because it usually is anyway.

3) Smile. A good attitude brings along a great outlook on life. Even if you have to fake it. Every day before you leave your house, take a deep breath, smile, and find something to look forward to. Life is what you make it.

4) The big picture can be scary sometimes. Take life one day at a time, and if you ever do need to look at the big picture, only take a small peek for what you need.

I'd like to hear all your philosophies on life, how you came to learn them, and how they help you today.

Good Idea

What goes around comes around is SO true. I try to be a nice guy and most of the time, I get the same respect back.

I agree with all but #2...first, you should have included parents and even then, some in all of those categories have spewed bullshit also...in my experience. We learn to filter the opinions of those we trust and those we do not...over time. Unfortunately, this is hard for an 8 year old. There are many people in my life who's judgement and opinions I trust and respect...and they are in none of those categories.

Anyway...all I would add to that is this. The one thing that has helped me most in my life is remaining "calm, cool and collected". This was a favorite phrase of my moms...no doubt where I learned this valuable life lesson.

You cannot possibly think straight and come to a correct conclusion when you're angry, sad, frustrated etc. Kinda like not going to the store hungry...you never know what you'll come back with. No matter what situation you come to face with...stay calm, getting bent our of shape will never help. Remain cool...don't let ANY emotions cloud your thinking on your current situation. Collected refers to drawing on our life's experiences as kind of a database to draw on to understand and take action in your current situation. Obviously, this database in your head increases with experience and learning. But you work with what you have.

1) Your attitude determines your altitude...

2) It can't rain everyday...

3) Serving others is a priviledge that few people comprehend...

4) We are most in touch with ourselves when we allow others to love us in return...

5) Life moves pretty fast. Take a moment every now and then to poke your head up and look around or you might miss out on it..

6) God gave you the gift of life. What you do with that life is your gift to God...

...to be continued...

I was raised Baptist so yea...

Only you are responsible for what you do. No one else can tell you the right decision.
Accept everyone as equal, no one is better than the other(unfortunately our society fails at this)
And the best advice, Love everyone, even if they hate you.

Man...that is deep.

If you look hard enough, every cloud has a silver linning.

To show emotion is to be human. (don't think that works well)

With Power, comes Ignorance.

Knowledge is power, even if you don't realize it yet.

Only you can make yourself

Everything is what we make of it.

A good leader will use his power. A false leader will abuse it.

All thngs have a reaction both good and bad. (I can prove it with anything)

Smiles are contagious, spread the love. (not ment to sound gay)

Abusing an advantage will cause them to lose it when they need it most.

Read a book about the 14th Dalai Lama, you can learn a lot.

A steady aim=HEAD SHOT!

I almost live off these things! More to come! Very Happy

(Title = "Thoughts of an pessimistic person")

What I think is based off how life is, not how life should be:

You are free to do anything you want to do.
You are completely responsible for anything you do.
You will take the consequences of how you act.
Whether you believe in what you are doing, or the consequences does not matter.

Life is not fair, in any way, shape, or form.

You are NEVER due anything, be it good or bad.

It is better to hate everyone equally than to only hate some for certain reasons.
It is better to love everyone equally than to only love some for certain reasons.
People should earn their way into trust/love if you hate everyone equally.
People should earn their way into your hate if you love everyone equally.
Anything in between is a prejudice.

The nice guy always finishes last.

Ignorance is NEVER an excuse.

Other people's opinions matter as much as you like.

The world is interpreted a different way by each person. Your life revolves around your perception of the world.

(Edit #1, continuation):

Experience is the best teacher. Let someone make their mistakes instead of stopping them from making them. They will then learn from their consequences, or repeat doing so until they do learn.

Power does not corrupt. It takes corrupt people to get power.

We strive to keep living/immortality for one reason:
We fear death and the unknown.

Those who live forever live in books for their accomplishments. Most of the people who live forever end up being hated by later generations for having to study, remember, and be tested on their accomplishments. Those who truely will live forever will live in infamy. (Proof: Do you talk more about Hitler or Albert Einstein?)

The World Dies

When all is lost and there is nothing more
Who knows what to think?
Who knows what’s for sure?

When life has no meaning,
And thoughts do digress
There cannot be hope
There is only distress.

For what it is worth
I don’t like this time
No justice, no morals
Just one big climb.

It is time to go
Life is a waste
There is no more time
No time for haste.

It seems to me
The world lost its mind
To live is to die,
To drink turpentine.

I do not see any solvable thing
For this hell we are on
For this everlasting sting.

"Can miles truly separate you from friends... If you want to be with someone you love, aren't you already there?"

Oh, and always, always, always take life one day at a time, and pretty much everything else howling mentioned.

Dont swet the small stuff

respect all

BE ONEST with your self and others

take responsability for your actions

mind over matter (dont let somone laghing at you make you loose focus just forget bout them)

words are not everything

have heart in what you do/are/and have

dont let mindless activities become a problem

dont assume.

go with the flow

be what you be (dont change b/c you think its cooler to do)

And one that ties alot together:

play your roll

rolls like a student,brother/sister,son/doughter,friend...

respnsability or not, care about it...whenever that roll may come into play, do it with heart reaspect, dont let the little things become big problems

Work now play latr even if that means you dont play tfc for weeks

you gotta do what you gotta do

2- If you think these people won't lie to you either, your naive.

3- I disagree here, in that lying to yourself and the world only makes you fake. If you do one thing, atleast be true to yourself.

A Mind is like a parachute, it only works when its open.

Live everyday like you are dead. Take care of matters as if you were to die tomorow so that all your affairs are in place.

I live my life in a way that is viewed as Zen Buddhism.

To get a good example of this read a book called Hagakure by a man called Yamamoto Tsunetomo.

I live by a combination of Shaolin and Samurai ideas and belifes that are in accordance to Zen Buddhism.
