That card only supports DirectX 8.1 ... you'd definitely want a card that supports DX 9 if you're gonna run HL2. Not that it wouldn't work...you'd miss out on a lot of the "bells and whistles".
I'm not thrilled with ANY of the prices I see there for the ATI cards. My All in Wonder 9600 sells there for $194.99. I bought that same card at a trade show over one year ago for $150.00.
Check out Newegg and some other vendors...and look for DX9 support. |

dude, you don't want to be caught DEAD with a PCI V-card.
Look in your mobo (mother board) and see if there is a slot that is kind of awkward when compared to some other slots. Better yet, read the manual. If you do have that slot, it will be colored some other color and not pe placed perfectly next to each other. That is either an AGP or PCI-Express slot, both are better then the regular PCI. The card you were looking at was a PCI, 4-8times slower then AGP and 16 times slower then PCI-Express. You might want to go for something else. Go to either TigerDirect.com or Newegg.com for some good parts. If you need any more help, everyone can help. I'm currently upgrading my comp so I need to know this stuff. Plus my cousin is a computer GENIUS! I can always ask himif I don't know. |

tell me what card you want and ill check it out at Fry's Electronics here in sacramento and send it to ya(you pay of course). frys has been my fav for low prices on computer stuff.
most of my computer "Vespa" came from frys(all but mobo from newegg) and it was made for less than $900 for sure.
ATI radeon 9500 w/ 128MB DDR was about $100 las i was it there last year. |

Ok, I'm gonna just go out and spill my beans of video cards.
I don't "love" Nvidia, but they have never let me down once, nor have they let down any of my friends that run on Nvidia cards. The 6800GT (my current card), has Pixel Shader 3.0, and the X800 from ATi only has Pixel Shader 2.0.
Also, of my friends that have ran on any ATi cards, they have more driver problems than ever; and they are not novice computer hardware geeks, they are full blown server ops that know what they're doing.
At this rate, im sticking with Nvidia till they screw me over.
IMO. |

NVidia's pros: top of the line cards, SLI, Endorsed by game creators more than ATI, Overclock-friendly, smells good right out of the box (new card smell. hehe), and is aligned with BFG Tech, the best gaming V-card company out there, overclocked right out of the box and no default overheats.
ATI's pro's: Cheaper cards, knows where to market, new one thousand series, proven to not colect as much dust, has close relations with ABIT, main color is red, and gives of that "powerfull" image.
I will also do cons for both soon.
If you want to see what others have to say, go look at some reviews. |

i fell in love w/ the ATI all in wonder cards when i got the first generation radeon(now detected as 7500). i could watch and record tv and video from games or vcr.
i use nvidia in my Vespa comp because of the possible future SLI upgrade. |

You have a brand new machine...I would find it almost impossible to believe that your motherboard doesn't have an AGP slot. |

PCI express.. looks like a slot w/ a hooklike(friction lock? ) edge on one side.
comes in short 1X to 6x(?) and 16X size for PCI-E video cards.
mainboards that have pci-e generally dont have agp. |

PCI-E Rox. A few years in the making, it has no problems. comes in 3 flavors, 1x, 4x, and 16x. 1and 4x are for some of the newr, more advanced utility cards out there, 16x is for GAMING!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yes, there is a friction lock on the side, and there are mobos with AGP and PCI-E slots, but the PCI-E slots are 1x and 4x, so you can't have 2 types of videocards. PCI-E Videocards require a LOT of power. 500-550 watts of power recommeded for PCI-E mobos, plus your power supply had better have a 6 pin adapter, or you'll have a powerless card.
GO PCI-E!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Perfect 100%
No losses here!
