well i might as well make a post in case someone randomly knows something that could help me. my video card seems to drop significantly in fps whenever anything or anyone is around. ie. walking into the cap 2 area on magelli, my fps will drop to about 40 or below. my max fps is 100. i understand fps will drop and whatnot and 60 is fine but sometimes it even drops to 30 and below, and we wont even get into my favorite map ukfootie when it drops to 20 and below. my video card is about 3 years old. i tried updating the driver to fix it already, but it did nothing and i actually had a problem with it sorta but thats beside the case. lets focus on the fps problem. is this a normal thing and im just crazy? or is there anything i can do to help? or do i need a new video card? double ewe tee eff |

I had to reinstall my video card's original drivers from the disk; the latest driver really messed up my HL and HL2 graphics. |

SO everything's fine?
Don't you just hate it when an update seems to screw more things up? |

okay, you need a new card.
Unless you want to do the following
1. use REALLY low-res weapon models
2. play on a LOW resolution
3. Using Lowres player models
4. using LOW poly models
5. using tile textures{might not help but might help}
6. using 0 decals
7. smaller flares
================================
The same thing happend to me, i just got a new video card.

my fps doesn't go above 60 much... and i'm somewhat adept at playing at 30-40. and have often seen my fps drop to the teens, or in the 20's.
=/
i think i need a new card more D:
btw what is your video card?
i use a NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 |

developer 1 (delimits the max FPS limit in steam)
fps_max 999 (maxes out your FPS)
Type these into your console or into one of your .cfgs. Trippled my FPS by just doing that!
before: 60 FPS
after: 180 FPS
My video card is one model older than Flymoto's. |

I believe you have to turn off vertical sync with a Nvidia card to receive higher FPS or it will max out at 60.
..or atleast that's what I've had to do
right click your desktop
properties
advanced
-under your video cards properties
look for vertical sync - shut it off
^^ plus do the max_fps 100 in steam console

Wow, LOTS of things going on at one time in here.
Time for some KIRBY!
<(' '<)
<( ' ' )>
(>' ')>
Anyway, do any of these things.
But what I don't understand is why STEAM would put a limit on your FPS?
WTF, STEAM's screwed up. |

OpenGl > d3d ...
its a bit harder to do but you can still get about 70-100 fps with vsync on. Need a good monitor to do it though |

Awesome Kidani.
But RS is right.
OpenGL is tougher, but it's better. |
