By far I know jack shiznit about computers or how to make them run faster. I have a old Geforce4 4600 TI AGP graffix card with the Nvidia desktop manager. Is that as good as it gets? A friend told me about over clocking, and said it would help me out alot. If anyone can help I would be super grateful.
Thanks,
Bent |

There are tons of websites about how to do it and how to do it SAFELY. I gotta ask though, are you doing this for TFC or a different game? Reason being, TFC stops at a max of I believe 60 FPS (frames per second) REGARDLESS of how high you set it at. Remember that this game is what, 7 years old? And back then, they only foresaw a certain max in their video settings based on what was available and what was on the immediate horizon.
Case in point, I have a BFG 6800 GT OC vid card that I got last year for $400. I got it specifically for DOOM3, and nothing else. I benefitted from it for Half Life 2, but it didnt do jack for HL1/TFC.
In console, type net_graph 3 to see your FPS, and net_graph 0 to make the screen go away.
Also, type FPS_MAX 100 to get the most your card will do for you, but see what it shows. If you are getting in the 40-60 FPS range, leave your card alone as if you overclock it too much, you do run the risk of burning the card out. |

FPS max in TFC is 100. Toughy You have your vertical Sync still on limiting you to 60. OC'ing that would be pointless as of the age and type of card. |

STEAM sets it at a limit.
Someone explained it, maybe it was Kidani...
But having a high FPS screws with the physics, so people climb ladders faster, fly across a large map with a single reg. grenade, and such. |

You can climb ladders faster anyway by strafing them. Just climb using the strafe buttons instead of the forward key. |

for those who don't know how overclocking works:
overclocking is going into the BIOS of the cpu/gpu and raising the speeds past the stardard of the cpu/gpu. if done correctly, it has been proven to raise speeds by a pretty decent ammount. my cpu is an athlon +3200 with a standard speed of 2.1 GHz. after the overclock, it's been boosted to 2.6 GHz. but, if you overclock it too fast, you could fry your cpu. and just because it starts up without fault doesn't mean it's fine. there are programs out there that will do this for you, but the names come to a blank to me.
edit: look for cpu stressing programs. these will tell you the speeds of your cpu/gpu. who knows, you might not need to overclock. |

I'll bet it also doubles as a hot plate.
Seriously, of course that can be done. But my best guess is it would burn out so quickly...it's simply not worth blowing all that gear. 30% gain is typical and will give you almost as much life as gear that hasn't been overclocked.
If you've got cash to burn and fire insurance...sure push it all you can. |

sorry i work on computers and theres noway
you can clock a computer at 7.6 it would fry the board,it would be just to much,if you want to over
clock take it at a little boost at a time each time
run your game and see how it dose because some
games wont run when you over clock, and most
new boards you can over clock by resarting and
go into setup but becarful because you can kill
your board hop this helps ghost53(death befote dishonor) |
