Update.....I never knew the name, but its called a PORTICO. I spent all of Fathers Day and Monday building one of these from scratch.
Its 8 foot wide by 5 foot deep.
This is basically what we used to have.....
Today, I have to shingle it, then put on a 2nd one on the side of my house over the other door.
90 degrees FTL !!!! Oh well, coffee is almost kicking in, gotta run. I'll update again later tonight.....if my body lets me. |

Nice DIY work there. It's nice to see people doing this kind of stuff for themselves. |

I am going to have to hire Toughie to help me fix up my house next year. Toughie you can be like the Foremen and drink beer and yell at the slobs for not doing it the right way. |

No no no.....neither of those 2 houses are mine. I just found those pix as samples. Mrs TS is taking pix of the entire project, which I'll post when its all done.
Anyway, back on track, today I am getting to the shingling, before it hits 90 again. I had to stop with the roofs around 7:00ish last night due to rain.
Then I have a second window to install in the living room.....all this before the siding company takes over my driveway as they drop off all of the siding materials so that I can finally do some work that people will see. Then, if all goes well, I can cleanout my garage so that I can find all the tools I keep using then dropping on my work bench. I swear, the more you do, the bigger the mess you make. Gee, wonder what time DuK will wake up today, in the attemps to help me. |

Ok, lets see.....so far I have put up the outside insulation on the lower half of the house, boxed out the new bay window, trimmed out 3 sides of the houses windows, R&Red the living room window....all while it hasnt stopped raining all weekend....and before that its been like 85-90+ degrees and high humidity all week. NJ weather sure can suck....but, I keep toiling along. |

90 degree weather does not suck and I'm gonna miss it when it cools back down to 70 over here in the next few days. |

There is something very wrong with you, 70 is a billion times better then 90, espically if the 90 weather has over 90% humidity |

Tuesday morning....coffee hasnt kicked in and I woke up with a migrane. Oh, this is gonna be a good day, NOT !!! Anyway, with any luck, I will have the corners set, and the laser-level lines around the perimeter by the end of the day. Still have to do some damage repairs around the soffits and where the brick meets the house at the front, which isnt hard, but extremely time consuming. The bay window is finally all trimmed out with no further tweaks needed on the outside.
Rumor has it, once I have all the 'starter strips' installed, this thing should fly, and according to friends of mine, I can do at least 2 walls a day. We shall see.
Ok, time to go out and deal with both the work, and Mother Nature. |

Welp, this should be the day. Went around over the last 2 days trimming out the windows and doorway, had to instal the dryer vent and other assorted boxes around the mechanical stuff.....after this cup of coffee, Im laying out the starter strip and with any luck, I should have the front of the house all sided by the end of the day......I can hope anyway. LOL
Lets see how straight I can put this stuff up. But then again, Im starting to like the "aluminum foil" look that the house is currently in. |
