Im so tired of my state burning down. In the last 8 years 20% of AZ forest's have burned to a crisp. I finally had enough, and joined my local fire department as a volunter. This last week; I took the week off to help dig fire lines on the Potato fire in Sedona, AZ. I have had the most self fullfilling feeling Ive ever felt helping a community save their house's. It's hard work, but I felt I had to do my part. It sound cheesie! But it;s true. If your state is in a epidemic, something inside you calls. I had to do it, and as of today.... the fire has pretty much burned out. Cudos to me...lol!
Has anyone eles felt this calling before? I know Tough-Sox has done his part during 9-11, and thats something we all should be proud of. Anyways, just wanted to say what was on my chest. See ya'll in the game.

I'm proud of you Bentdog! My bro is a volunteer firefighter in Helena, MT. But that's when he's in school. I wanna do something cool like that, it sounds like an experience. |

WTG Drew-Bob. Yea, you definitely get a good feelinginside when you volunteer for something that no one else wants to do. Back when 9/11 happened, not all of the people I worked with went to the site, as alot of them couldnt handle it. Remember, that was our home, so we were at WTC all the time. Yet, when it happened, some people just couldnt bear to see all the carnage of something they knew and loved.
I'd have to say, the part I found the most fulfilling was being attached to the group that constantly went underground, beneath the site ( I was in the north section, under WTC 4 & 5, predominately.)
Thats me in level B-6, 60 feet below ground zero.....as you can tell, theres nothing above me where the steel from WTC 1 came through the top. We nicknamed it "God's House" as all the beams snapped in a way that they all looked like crossed.....see over my head in the background. I might be older then most of you guys, and tall (6'1") but Im skinny enough to go through all the caverns and nooks so I didnt hesitate when they needed me there.
My hats off to you Drew-Bob.....keep up the good work, but stay out of harms way. Remember.....a hero is nothing but a sandwich. |
