Sad
It's tough to play with no sound.....

I was listening to music earlier and all of a sudden my audio just vanished. I have tried finding out what is wrong, but I have no clue. Is it even possible to fry your sound card while listening to music?

I feel cold Crying or Very sad [/b]

If you use headphones or a headset, make sure it's not them before you do anything, and if not make sure every thing's plugged in fully and correctly. Otherwise you might've fried the card, and that won't be fun, but there are cheap sounds cards out there.

Check your sound configuration in windows...make sure it's not muted and that the correct sound device is being used. Look in device manager and see if the device is working properly.

Do you have a stand alone sound card...or onboard sound on the motherboard Question

Not the headphones, or the speakers, or anything like that, I have plugged both into all the jacks... I guess I'm boned.....

Does anybody know where to find a cheap/decent card?

And to chips, looked through all the settings to make sure everything was off mute, and nothing was...

And I have no clue what kind of sound card it is... I just play games, I don't know crap about anything computer related.

Look in device manager...sound,video and game controllers. Your sound device will be listed there. IF you have onboard sound (on the motherboard)...there's a slight chance it was disabled. You'd have to enable it by going into the bios.

I have a stand alone soundblaster card and one day, the onboard sound just turned itself on. Surprised

Screwed up everything until I figured out what was wrong and turned it off. Rolling Eyes

Find out what you're dealing with first...and go from there.

Don't cut off the arm before you know what's wrong.

Sometimes my audio drivers cut out whenever I boot up.
I have to re-install every now and then

Ever thought of getting those headphones/headsets that have an integrated Soundcard?
I thought that would be cool.

Where would I find drivers at?

As far as I can tell, the sound card is a "realtek" something or other. And thanks to anybody who is putting up with my inept computer skills.

By that make alone...I'd say you have onboard sound built into your motherboard. I haven't seen you answer whether or not you checked in device manager and noted if the device is working properly. Question

Again, find out if there are any problems in device manager and ask someone who knows (if you don't) how to boot into your system bios and see if your onboard sound is enabled.

I looked earlier and it said it was functioning properly... Another reason this really sucks is because my "band"(if you can even call it that) was going to record some new stuff tomorrow, but now we can't with out being able to play it back....

I had a similar problem. Funny enough all I had to do was unplug my headset and plug it back in.

Yea, that didn't work, tried that half a million times.... But I'm about 99 percent sure that the soundcard is f***ed... When I plug my speakers in(I know the speakers work, plugged them into my cd player) to the computer the speakers just start making this sound that sounds kind of like a bass drum with a pillow in it at a really steady pace. I have tried headphones and all that jazz, but when it comes down to it I'm going to have to either try and pull warranty, or get a new soundcard.
