Fortress Forever Update: September Release.
http://www.fortress-forever.com/
Quote: |
These next few months are going to be great for TF fans and halflife2 gamers alike. It is with great pleasure that we announce Fortress Forever will be released this September, and of course it will be free to all halflife 2 owners . The game will release with 10 core maps featuring 6 different game modes centering around capture the flag, and capture and defend gameplay. Spread the word and get ready for action!
Fortress Forever expands on the classic team fortress action as well as introducing elements to improve accessibility for players new to the genre. If you ever find yourself antsy waiting to get back into the action in other multiplayer games, then this is the game for you. It's not all instant gratification though; within the game there are classes to suit every player's style, be it stealth, finesse with movement, precision aim, the joy of weilding a ridiculous amount of explosives, or simply brute force . Even within these classes (9 in total) you can go about developing your own playstyle.
We hope to get out some simple no frills gameplay clips in the upcoming days to show the kind of experience players can expect the first time they fire up the game, but there is no real substitute for experiencing it firsthand. We hope to see you in the server on release day.
Another reminder to those who plan to host servers on release: Send an email to fortressforever@gmail.com with your server or mirror information. If you already sent your info we still have it on file, so no need to resend; thanks!
Also we are still looking for a programmer and character modeller/texture artist for post release enhancement and support. If you have any other talent you'd like to lend, we will be interested so let us know.
One a final note: Thanks to the halflife2 community for all the support (and criticism) during development. We've listened carefully to feedback around the general community, and are confident that it has helped shape the first release for the better, and will continue to help shape the game through its lifetime.
Cheers,
-The FF team |

Definitely wasn't surprised about this considering how well polished the beta was the first day I played it... can't believe this day is finally here though, after 2 and a half years of waiting and supporting the team... |

Sept 30; more likely in October. |

There is no exact date yet; not even us beta testers get a date. That, and giving an exact date will cause problems... INS (Insurgency) did that and low and behold all the distribution options (fileplanet timed-exclusive I believe) we're packed and unable to distribute fast enough. The FF team is going to play it smart with multiple mirrors at the same time instead of exclusivity to one file distribution center. |

i figured it would be something like that, but a date is just something that would be nice to be able to wait for.
Now we don't know if we are still waiting on a couple last minute bugs to be fixed or if it is simply based on getting mirrors up and such.
i simply can't wait |

I'll say that it's probably both, last minute bugs and mirrors. I'm taking a look at the bug tracker and there's still some bugs that need to be squashed, while others are fixed and just need to have the server/client files patched.
Keep your eyes peeled though. |

Anshinritsumai....are beta people privy to talk about hosted sites? Reason I asked was G4B2S has had me relay info to the FF staff twice about mirror sites and FTP.....just wondering of they added it to their 'list" or not??? |

Not entirely sure what you mean by that; but as far as i'm aware the beta peeps are looking for some good mirrors and getting publicity for the announcement; as for who will be mirroring the files, is unknown. No list has been made available as far as I can see, aside from private hosting after the initial download is done (ie: I go download it then post it on a webserver; but I don't have one, so that wont happen). |
