the melvins are solely responsible for the existence of grunge, nirvana is only responsible for its popularity. they influenced pretty much every band, including nirvana, so i'd say they were more influental. |

i watched a Unsolved Mysteries special on Cobain AB and they brought up some pretty good points about how the shell outta the shotgun was ejected in a weird direction from how it shoulda, the note he wrote could been tampered by Courtney because of the style of writing and was made into a "suicide" note, and like how they said that he had way too much heroine in his system to even try to be coordinated enough to shoot the gun at that specific time. I mean he coulda built up a tolerance for it, but just the way they said it and the case they made for him...thats what had me convinced. There was other reasons they made, but those were the ones that stuck w/ me. And yeah the PD did a real sloppy job i heard on that case. |

I will disagree there Aud. While the Melvins may have influenced Nirvana, Nirvana influenced many more bands. |

You cannot say that the Melvins are solely responsible for creating Grunge. That makes ME physically ill. |

Dave Grohl is a meanie head.
But you have to admit he was a damn good drummer when Nirvana was around, thus why they were good. |

Sorry AB but Aud is right on this fact that the Melvins started it and Nirvana brought it into the mainstream. Its a tough pill to swallow but once you accept it it goes down nice and smooth. |

The Dave Grohl fans are worse though ricky...I remember i was watching a chevelle interview and Pete said they were doing a lil tour w/ them back in the day, and he said he was on stage playing and doing their thing and he said they booed the hell out him. They were like, wtf is this! where's Dave! get Dave on stage! He said those fans think Dave Grohl is like Jesus or something lol. And those are the type fans that i really hate. I mean not cause they booed my favorite band because that happens to every band, but i mean whenever i go to a show i listen and give the other bands a chance and some even turn out to be good. Like when i went to the SnoCore tour to see chevelle, 3 of the other bands were pretty good (Tripside, Crossfade, Helmet) and when i went to see them recently, 2Cents was playin and they were aight also. |

Nobody is soley responsible for creating anything in music. Just because one band made it popular doesn't mean they made the genre, and just because another band did stuff like it before hand, doesn't mean they made it. Who knows who the first band to start doing it was, no one does. If you say that Nirvana listened to Melvin, so Melvin was first, who did Melvin listen to? And who did they listen to? And it goes aaallll the way back, to gregorian chant. People writing stuff for God. So in a way, God created Grunge.
And anyway, there's a reason they call the forming of these genres Movements, cause they're big, and lots of people are involved. Some may be more important, but all of that is up to people guessing since no one here knows what the bands were thinking when they were writing and playing shows. |
