Hi guys. I thought I'd share a neat little plugin I found for Half-Life. It adds the bloom effect, which looks nice in indoor areas like most of Half-Life is. Unfortunately, it looks like crap in outdoor ones and VAC might think youz hackin' if you use it with TFC.
Have a look though |

Holy crap, that looks nice. I'll have to get a crap acct and use it on that when I make an AVI :O
And also, holy crap, more Oregonians. |

Modified .dll's ... especially in the upper directories ... is typically flagged by programs other than VAC as hacks also. It used to be common practice several years ago to get better opengl functionality from having a legitimate .dll for your graphics card in the upper directories...not any more.
VAC may very well flag this...it may not. Can anyone confirm this |

I'm not gonna risk it :p And anyway, unless you turn the bloom waaay down, it looks like crap in TFC because of a lot of the bright, open outdoors areas. I guess in maps like well it might look all right. Looks great in Half-Life and Sven coop
I wonder if it'd be considered a modified dll since it's the only opengl thing I have in my directory. I'll ask over at the Steam forums and see if anyone knows. |

Cause I wanted to. An error was really pissing me off, even after I had done all they said to, so I basically cussed them out except a little more civil, but with an awesome effect. The result was, that I was banned. |

On second thought... I just took a look at the autheor of this DLL file; Mirvin_Monkey.
More known as the Lead Programmer for Fortress Forever. As much as I would love to playtest this mod to see if an account will be banned or not, I do not want to take the chance still.
I will post on the steampowered forums as well as PM mirvin on the FF forums. |

Was Mirvin the one who made hax? I know one of the FF people did, and it stirred up a controversy. |

wow. that effect is awesome. my friend works at EB games, and they have a stack of Half-life games in the back that they can't get rid of. i'll see if i can get them for dirt cheap, then try this out. |

Well, I just got a PM back from Mirvin_Monkey over at Fortress Forever; yes, he made this DLL. He's not sure if VAC will detect it as a hack or not, so there is a possibility of getting banned by VAC. Also, he does know that some people play on VAC enabled servers with this mod installed and *so far* they are fine.
So, if you want to try this out, I suggest getting a new account JUST IN CASE!!
I'll be using my 2nd account to test it out. |

Did you ask valve yet? Cause they don't like me and I can't create an account on their forums still. |
