I need helping putting the newest patch onto battlefield 1942. I just found the discs in my room from back when I used to play, so I installed it, and downloaded the newest patch, but I don't actually know how to patch the game. Sorry about all the lame tech questions lately, this is the only forum I have ever found where people help and don't just call me a n00bish F***tard. Much love broskies. |

Usually, Patches that aren't stand-alone .exe files are in compressed folders.
THOSE usually have a readme or some installation instructions online.
.Exe files , you just load up, and install.
Sorry, but that's all I can offer
When you need info on the war itself, I'm more helpful in that area.
But, EA's new patch system is automatic (but still a pain)
I reccomend ckecking the Teech support FAQ'a online. |

There was a notepad file in the folder and it said:
INSTALLATION:
Untar this on a bf1942 1.6 (rc2) installation:
# cd <DIRECTORY_CONTAINING_BF1942_DIR>
# tar zxvf bf1942-update-1.61.tar.gz
Contents of the tarball:
bf1942/
bf1942/mods/
bf1942/mods/bf1942/
bf1942/mods/bf1942/contentcrc32.con
bf1942/mods/bf1942/init.con
bf1942/bf1942_lnxded.dynamic
bf1942/bf1942_lnxded.static
bf1942/UPDATE-1.61-INSTALL.txt
And I have no clue what any of that means... |

Jordant, .tar files are compressed files similar to zip files except they use a program, tar, to compress the files instead of winzip. You need to get the program (yahoo search for tar program should point in right direction) and uncompress(untar) the files into your Battlefield 1942 directory. Make sure to look at the bf1942 startup screen to make sure your bf1942 is version 1.6 before you start. when you have untared the files into that directory make sure you read the bf1942/update-1.61-install.txt to make sure you do not have to do anything else, but that should do it.
Hope This was some help.
Here's a link to a program with a free 28 day trial which should work for you.
http://www.download.com/ZipScan/3000-2250_4-10249625.html?tag=lst-0-3
And Jordant, remember to always scan ANY file you download onto your computer with a antivirus scanning program before you do anything with it.
